NC Ferries

Cherry Branch Ferry Operations Center and Sitework – Craven Co, NC (2011-2015)

Swan Quarter Ferry Operations Center and Sitework – Hyde County, NC (2011-2015)

•    Roof rainwater capture system
    -    Removes additional impervious area from point source flow into harbor
    -    Provides beneficial reuse of natural resources for toilet flushing and irrigation at new operations center

•    Stormwater infiltration
    -    Retrofit infiltration trenches into existing stormwater swale to allow more infiltration and reduce nitrogen load into harbor
    -    Routing of stormwater through overland grassy swales to allow greater infiltration and to reduce nitrogen load into harbor
    -    Routing of overflow building downspouts through planned landscaping to utilize the natural rainwater in the root systems of the native plantings

•    On-site septic system (Cherry Branch site only)
    -    Utilize LPP septic system to pressure dose the new septic field on site
    -    Designed overexcavation of trenches to provide chimneys for septic effluent to infiltrate better into the existing sandy soils layer approximately 4.5’ below the ground surface

•    Removal of on-site septic system (Swan Quarter site only)
    -    Designed new force main to remove wastewater from current site septic system and tie to public sanitary district for treatment

•    Net Zero Discharge from Ferry Boat planning
    -    Designed ferry boat removal system whereby waste from the ferry restrooms would be pumped onto shore through a designed system and into the on-site septic system as discussed above
    -    Removing point source discharges into the river shellfish waters
